Sir Timothy Hugh Bevan was born on May 24, 1927, and died on February 11, 2016.

He was an English heir, lawyer and banker.

From 1981 to 1987, Bevan served as the Chairman of Barclays Bank.

Sir Timothy Bevan was a direct descendant of both Silvanus Bevan (from 1743-1830) and of David Barclay (from 1682-1769), two of the original senior partners in Barclay, Bevan, Tritton and Co.

He received his education at the Eton College.

Sir Timothy Bevan served in the Welsh Guards, a regiment of the British Army, from 1945 to 1947.

In 1950, Sir Timothy Bevan studied the Law and was called to the bar.

In 1950, Timothy started his career at the family business, Barclays Bank.

He served in its offices in London, Manchester, Preston, and Luton, followed by its offices in France and Cyprus until 1955, when he joined the offices in Leeds, Nottingham, and Lombard Street, London.

From 1966 to 1993, he served on the Board of Directors of Barclays Bank.

Timothy served as its Vice Chairman, from 1968 to 1974.

Sir Bevan served as its Chairman from 1981 to 1987.

Sir Bevan was succeeded by Sir John Quinton.

Sir Timothy Bevan served as the Chairman of the Committee of London Clearing Bankers and the Vice President of the Council of the Institute of Bankers.

Bevan also served as a member of the National Economic Development Council.

Sir Timothy Bevan served on the Board of Trustees of the Conservators of Ashdown Forest in East Susse

Sir Bevan was knighted on February 14, 1984.

He left behind a widow and four children.

Sir Timothy Bevan passed away at 88 yrs old after a long illness.
