Sir Nicholas Peter Rathbone Wall was born on March 14, 1945, and died on February 18, 2017.

He was an English judge.

Wall was President of the Family Division and Head of Family Justice for England and Wales.

He was called to the bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1969 and was made a Bencher in 1993.

Wall became a Queen’s Counsel and was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1988.

Wall became a Recorder in 1990.

Sir Nicholas was appointed to the Family Division of the High Court on 20 April 1993, receiving the customary knighthood.

He was a Judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal (2001–2003) and the Administrative Court (2003–2004).

Wall was promoted to the Court of Appeal on January 12, 2004, and consequently made a Privy Counsellor.

Wall was nominated to be President of the Family Division by the appointments panel, but the Lord Chancellor, Jack Straw, asked them to reconsider.

On April 13, 2010, the panel once again put Wall forward, and he was subsequently appointed to the position.

He retired on December 1, 2012, for health reasons.

Sir Nicholas Wall passed away at 71 years old.
