Captain Sir John Norman Ide Leslie, 4th Baronet was born on December 6, 1916, and died on April 18, 2016.

He was the eldest son of Sir Shane Leslie, 3rd Bt., and Marjorie Ide.

Sir John became the fourth baronet when his father died in 1971.

He was educated at Downside School and Magdalene College, Cambridge, Leslie never married or had children.

In World War II, Leslie served as an officer in the Irish Guards during the Battle of France before being captured at Boulogne-sur-Mer.

Sir John Leslie then spent five years in POW camps.

Following the war, Sir John Leslie moved to New York and later travelled around Europe, settling in Rome.

When he turn 78 yrs of age, he returned to his family’s homestead, Castle Leslie and traveled to Ibiza for his 85th birthday in 2001.

Sir John Leslie accidentally revealed the wedding location of Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills by admitting to reporters it was to take place in Castle Leslie, but that it was “a secret”.

He appeared in the television programme Secrets of the Manor House, in January 2012, that discussed the Leslie family and Castle Leslie, among other manor homes.

During 2015, he featured in the TV series Tales of Irish Castles.

Sir John Leslie was presented with the Legion d’Honneur at the French embassy in Dublin on 9 November 9, 2015.

Sir John Leslie passed away at 99 yrs old.
