Sir Leslie Ronald “Jimmy” Young was born on September 21, 1921, in Cinderford, Gloucestershire and died on November 7, 2016.

He was an English singer and radio personality.

When his career was still young, Jimmy had two number ones and several other top ten hits in the UK chart, but he became better known for his long-running show on BBC Radio Two.

Jimmy was the son of a baker and a dressmaker, he attended East Dean Grammar School.

When his parents divorced in 1939, he left for South Wales to work as an electrician.

Jimmy later joined the RAF staying until 1949, becoming a PT Instructor.

He received an OBE in 1979, a CBE in 1993, and, at the beginning of 2002, he was knighted for services to broadcasting.

Jimmy’s first autobiography, J.Y.: The Autobiography of Jimmy Young , was published by W.H. Allen in 1974.

Jimmy’s second autobiography, Forever Young: The Autobiography, was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 2003.

His wife was Alicia.

Sir Jimmy Young passed away at 95 years old.
