Sir Elihu Lauterpacht, British lawyer, Died at 88

Sir Elihu Lauterpacht was born on July 13, 1928, and died on February 8, 2017.

He was a British academic and lawyer.

Lauterpacht specialized in International Law, son of Hersch Lauterpacht and founder of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the Law Faculty in Cambridge University.

His parents were Rachel and Hersch Lauterpacht.

Around the time of the Second World War broke out, Professor Hersch Lauterpacht was invited by the Carnegie Endowment to take a visiting professorship in the United States, so with the approval and encouragement of the British Foreign Office, the Lauterpracht family relocated to America in September 1940.

Lauterpacht attended the private Horace Mann School for years in the Bronx before joining the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.

When he graduated in June 1944 Lauterpacht returned to the United Kingdom.

Then, when he ha return to England Lauterpacht entered Trinity College, Cambridge in 1945, initially reading history, before switching to the law tripos.

While he was at the Bar, Sir Elihu was a member of 20 Essex Street Barristers’ Chambers, before retiring late in 2015

Sir Elihu Lauterpacht passed away at 88 years old.
