Sir Bruce Houlton Slane was born on August 10, 1931, and died on January 7, 2017.

He was a New Zealand public servant and lawyer.

Slane served as New Zealand’s first Privacy Commissioner from 1993 to 2003.

He was educated at Takapuna Grammar School and Auckland University, graduating with a law degree in 1957.

Slane was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1985 and became a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2002.

Slane accepted the title of Knight Companion in 2009.

His wife was Lady Penelope, who died on December 28, 2016.

Sir Bruce Slane passed away at 85 years old.
