Sidney Huntington, indigenous leader and writer, Died at 100

Sidney Charles Huntington was born on May 10, 1915, in Hughes, Alaska and died on December 8, 2015.

He was an American indigenous leader and writer.

In September 2014 Yukon-Koyukuk Tour, Sidney Huntington traveled downriver from Galena to attend a performance of The Winter Bear in Nulato.

Sidney Huntington stepped down from the Board of Game in 1992 at the age of 77, after serving on the board under five governors.

Sidney had suffered a heart attack during one of his Game meetings, during the previous fall.

Rooted in Huntington’s life,“The Winter Bear” is a story about life and survival in Interior Alaska.

The play was so popular and loved by many it was shown across the state and in the spring arrived in Bethel.

Huntington was a trapper, miner, fisherman, business owner, member of the State Board of Game, civic leader, and advocate for his people.

Sidney has around 20 children.

He left behind his wife, Angela.

Sidney Huntington passed away at 100 yrs old.
