Shumon Miura was born on January 12, 1926, and died on February 3, 2017.

He was a Japanese novelist.

Miura Shin-Shicho (新思潮: “New Thought”) in 1950.

During the following year, Miura published his first book.

Then, he married fellow Third Generation writer Ayako Sono in 1953, with whom he wrote many books about Catholicism and religion.

He began teaching at Nihon University in 1967, the same year he was awarded the Shinchosha Prize.

Miura was commissioner of the Cultural Affairs Agency, from 1985 to 1986.

During 1999, the Japanese government designated Miura a Person of Cultural Merit.

During 2004, Miura was appointed to lead the Japan Art Academy.

Shumon stepped down in 2014.

He died due to pneumonia.

Shumon Miura passed away at 91 years old.
