Sebastiao do Rego Barros Netto was born on January 27, 1940, in Rio de Janeiro, and died on November 9, 2015.
He was a Brazilian lawyer, diplomat and Ambassador.
Sebastiao held some of the most prominent positions of Brazilian diplomacy.
He was in charge of several important missions of Brazil to the United Nations, the European Community and the Organization of American States.
Sebastiao was also an ambassador of Brazil and Russia, in the former Soviet Union from January 26,1990, and Russia until December 1994.
As ambassador, Sebastiao closely followed the attempted coup against Mikhail Gorbachev, the rise of Boris Yeltsin and the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Sebastiao was Brazil’s ambassador in Argentina from of January 26, 1999 until December 27, 2001, when Sebastiao was invited to fill the post of general director of the National Petroleum Agency.
He was director general of the ANP of January 2, 2002, until January 15, 2005.
Sebastiao was Gil’s son Rego Barros and Haydéa Parodi do Rego Barros.
He left behind his Maria Cristina de Lamare Rego Barros and has three children.
Sebastiao passed away on November 9, 2015, when he fell from the 11th floor of his Preludio building in Copacabana.
