Saxa was born Lionel Augustus Martin on January 5, 1930, in Croft’s Hill, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica – and died on May 3, 2017.

He was a Jamaican saxophonist.

Lionel was famous for having performed with the British ska band The Beat.

Saxa also played with many early ska and reggae stars such as Laurel Aitken, Prince Buster, and Desmond Dekker.

Saxa played in The International Beat with musicians Tony Beet, Everett Morton and Mickey Billingham.

Lionel Augustus Martin retired and lived in Birmingham.

Saxa passed away at 87 years old.
