Sabam Siagian was appointed the first editor in chief of The Jakarta Post.

He had left the Jakarta Post in 1991 upon his appointment as Indonesia’s Ambassador to Australia.

He had was succeeded at the Jakarta Post by Susanto Pudjomartono, who served as the newspaper’s second chief editor from 1991 until 2003.
