Rory MacDonald, British horse racing executive, Died at 66

Rory MacDonald was born in 1949, and died on November 2, 2015.

He was a British horse racing executive, and MD of The British Racing School from 1992 to 2014

Rory was the chief executive of the British Racing School for 22 years and driving force in its transformation to a world renowned centre of excellence.

His work was recognised with the award of an OBE in 2007.

Rory lived in Wrockwardine, Shropshire, He had retired from the BRS last September.

The operations director at BRS, Duncan Gregory, said on Tuesday: Rory built the racing school from a fairly modest set-up to a centre of excellence of international repute.

Nick Rust, chief executive of the BHA, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rory MacDonald.

Rory worked tirelessly for 22 years as chief executive of the British Racing School.

Most of his time at the BRS Rory gave so many young people a start in racing, and built so much to improve the system as a whole.

Rory was well-respected by the BRS pupils and amongst the training fraternity and will be sorely missed by the racing industry more widely.

Rory MacDonald passed away at age 66 suddenly on November 2, 2015.
