Roman Ivanovych Ivanychuk was born on May 27, 1929, in Trach, Kosiv Raion, and died on September 18, 2016, in Lviv.

He was a Ukrainian writer and politician.

Roman was the 1985 laureate of the Shevchenko National Prize.

In the year 1990 to 1994, he was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada.

In 2009, Ivanychuk received a title of Hero of Ukraine.

He studied languages at Lviv University and graduated in 1957.

Ivanychuk worked as a school teacher between 1957 and 1963; he published short stories and novels since 1958.

Beyond 1963, he worked as an editor of Zhovten magazine until 1990.

During 1995, he became a professor at Lviv University and taught there until his death.

Roman Ivanychuk passed away at 87 years old.
