American football player Roderick Earl Jones was born on March 3, 1964, and died on December 8, 2018.

Rod Jones was a professional American football tight end for three seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League.

In college, he played football at the University of Washington and was a member of the 11-1 1984 team who beat Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl earning a national title.

Rod Jones completed his career at Washington as a team captain, while holding all of the school’s all-time receiving records for a tight end.

He joined the NFL, playing for the Kansas City Chiefs and later the Seattle Seahawks, in 1987.

Rod Jones attended the University of Washington, after the NFL earning a degree in Ethnic Studies in 2000.

He went on to spend nearly two decades within the athletic department as an Academic Coordinator.

Jones shot himself in the head in his Seattle home following a diagnosis of dementia and later died at Harborview Medical Center, on December 8, 2018,

Rod Jones’s family decided to donate his brain to the Boston University School of Medicine for CTE research.

Rod Jones passed away at 54 years old.
