Robert Spaemann

German Roman Catholic philosopher Robert Spaemann was born on May 5, 1927, in Berlin in and died on December 10, 2018.

Robert Spaemann was a member of the Ritter-School.

His main focus was on Christian ethics.

Spaemann was known for his work in bioethics, ecology, and human rights.

His work was not yet widely translated into languages other than his native German, Spaemann was internationally known and his work is highly regarded by Pope Benedict XVI.

Heinrich Spaemann and Ruth Krämer was his parents.

Spaemann’s parents were initially radical atheists, but both entered the Catholic Church in 1930, and after his mother’s passed away early his father was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1942.

In 1962, he attended the University of Münster, where, , he was awarded his Habilitation.

Robert Spaemann was the Professor of Philosophy at the Universities of Stuttgart (until 1968), Heidelberg (until 1972), and Munich, where he worked until he was made Emeritus Professor in 1992.

In 2012, Robert Spaemann was also Honorary Professor at Salzburg University and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Catholic University of Lublin.

Robert Spaemann passed away at 91 years old.
