Richard A. Pittman, American soldier, Died at 71

Master Gunnery Sergeant Richard Allan Pittman was born on May 26, 1945, in San Joaquin County, Stockton, California and died on October 13, 2016.

He was a retired United States Marine.

Pittman received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on July 24, 1966 during the Vietnam War.

Richard attended Hazelton Elementary School, Fremont Junior High School, and graduated from Franklin High School, Stockton, California, in June 1964.

During his time serving in Vietnam, he participated in numerous combat operations including Operation Deckhouse I and Joint Operation Nathan Hale with Army, Navy, and Air Force, at Song Cau District; Operation Deckhouse II and Operation Hastings in Quang Tri Province; Operation Colorado and Operation Napa at Tam-Ky Province; Operation Desoto near Quang Ngai; and in action against enemy forces at Da Nang.

Pittman married Geraldine with whom he had three girls.

Pittman had a daughter from his second marriage.

Pittman later married Patricia, who survived him.

Following his retirement, he resided in Stockton, California until his death.

Richard A. Pittman passed away at 71 years old.
