Ricardo Gardner

Ricardo Wayne Gardner was born on the 25th September 1978 in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, commonly known as Bibi, is a Jamaican footballer. He is a free agent after being released by Bolton Wanderers in May 2012, following a 14-year spell at the club, of which 11 were spent in the Premier League.

At the age of 14, Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardner was playing in Jamaica’s National Premiere League for Harbour View and exploded onto the football map at the 1998 World Cup finals with Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz.

His impressive showing, including assisting on Jamaica’s first ever World Cup goal, got the attention of scouts and he was snapped up by Bolton Wanderers from Harbour View that summer for £1million. Ricardo Gardner is naturally a Midfielder Winger but can also play in the Midfielder Centre midfielder or at Defender (association football) Wingback.

Ricardo Gardner made 22 appearances, half of them starts, in Ricardo Gardner first year while scoring three goals. In Ricardo Gardner second season, 1999–2000, Ricardo Gardner established a place in the starting eleven, starting 23 of 26 games that Ricardo Gardner has held on to since.

Although Gardner suffered a ligament injury that took Ricardo Gardner out of action at the end of the season, Ricardo Gardner made a full recovery, and was able to return to the starting line-up in 2000-01 in English football (scoring in the 2001 Division One Play off Final), playing with the promoted Bolton in the Premier League. In 2006, Ricardo Gardner helped the Bolton Wanderers beat the Arsenal Football Club 1-0.

His impressive performance led him to be nominated as the ‘Player of the Round’ along with Colchester’s Neil Danns, Birmingham’s DJ Campbell, Stoke’s Ed de Goey and Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand. Ricardo Gardner outlasted the final five nominees, won 37 percent of the total 15,000 votes and became the first Barclays Premiership player to clinch the ‘Player of the Round’ title for the FA Cup fourth round.

Gardner now has more than 400 games under his belt in a Bolton shirt and could be set to accumulate even more should he accept the offer of a new contract at the Reebok. Football better known as soccer is a popular game played all over the world. Football is introduced in Jamaica towards the end of the 19th century and 1893 is listed as the year Jamaica formed its first football club.

Jamaica’s first international appearance was against their Caribbean neighbours Haiti in 1925. Between 1925 and when Jamaica gained its independence in 1962, Jamaica had regular games with Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Cuba and clubs like Racing and Violette from Haiti, Corinthians of Britain, the Tigers from Argentina, and even a series of matches with a Caribbean All Stars team in 1952.

Bibi is also the Chief Executive Officer at the Mona based Heart of Love Production/Entertainment Management/Booking Agency; he has been responsible with his partners, for producing vibrant rhythms for the dancehall.
