Reinhart Ahlrichs, German theoretical chemist, Died at 76

Reinhart Ahlrichs was born on January 16, 1940, in Göttingen and died on October 12, 2016.

He was a German theoretical chemist.

Reinhart Ahlrichs studied Physics at the University of Göttingen (Diplom (M.Sc.) in 1965.

He received his PhD in 1968 with W. A. Bingel.

Since 1968-69 he was assistant at Göttingen with Werner Kutzelnigg and from 1969-70 Postdoctoral Fellow with C. C. J. Roothaan at the University of Chicago.

Following his period as an assistant from 1970-75 in Karlsruhe he has been Professor of Theoretical chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe since 1975.

Reinhart Ahlrichs also heads a research group at the INT.

Ahlrichs’ group developed the program TURBOMOLE.

Reinhart Ahlrichs passed away at 76 years old.
