Raymond Hoyt Thornton, Jr., known as Ray Thornton was born on July 16, 1928, and died on April 13, 2016.
He was a Democratic U.S. Representative for Arkansas’ 4th congressional district from 1973 to 1979 and the 2nd district from 1991 to 1997.
Ray Thornton served as a justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court from 1997 to 2005.
After his retirement from the court, he became the first public service fellow for the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
During 2009, he became the first chairman of the Arkansas Lottery Commission, which operates the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
Ray Thornton passed away at 87 yrs old.
