Rafael Vardi, Israeli general, Died at 94

Rafael Vardi was born in 1922, in Łódź, Poland and died on December 25, 2016.

He was Israel Defense Forces Major General and former head of the Manpower Directorate.

He was also the Chief Military Police Officer from 1960 to 1962.

In 1932, he immigrated to Israel.

Vardi attended the Gymnasia Balfour in Tel Aviv along with Shimon Peres.

They met in seventh grade after the Peres’ family arrived from Poland.

At age 16, he enlisted into the Haganah serving as a battalion commander of the Givati Brigade during the Israel War of Independence.

Later, Vardi served as the Head of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander of the Golani Brigade (1952-1953), and as the Tel Aviv District Commander.

Vardi was married to Rinah Vardi.

Together they had one son, Michael Verdi, who died in battle.

Rafael Vardi passed away at 94 years old.
