Punya Datta was born on June 21, 1924, and died on November 12, 2016,

He was an Indian cricketer.

Datta played first-class cricket for Bengal and Cambridge University.

During a first-Class career spanning from 1944-45 to 1955-56, Dutta scored 1,459 runs with a highest of 143.

Punya averaged 29.77 with the bat, scored 4 centuries and 5 fifties, and held 12 catches.

Datta captured 41 wickets at 37.09, and his best innings figures were 5 for 52.

He made his first-class debut for Bengal under the Maharaja of Cooch Behar, against the United Provinces (UP) at Eden Gardens in 1944-45.

Datta represented the Cambridge University Team as all- rounder against Sussex in the year 1947.

He was adjudged as the recipient of Kartick Bose Lifetime Achievement award in 2004 in recognition of his contributions to the Bengal Cricket.

Punya was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of this Association from 2008-09 to 2012-13.

Datta was also the President of the Calcutta Cricket & Football Club.

Punya Datta passed away at 92 years old.
