Pieter Hintjens was born on December 3, 1962, and died on October 4, 2016.
He was a Belgian software developer, and author.
He was also the past president of the Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII), an association that fights against software patents.
During 2007, Pieter was nominated one of the “50 most influential people in IP” by Managing Intellectual Property magazine.
During 2010, Pieter Hintjens was diagnosed with bile duct cancer, which was successfully surgically removed.
Nonetheless, in April 2016, the cancer had returned and he was diagnosed with terminal cholangiocarcinoma.
He underwent voluntary euthanasia on October 4, 2016
Pieter Hintjens passed away at 53 years old.
