Pia Pera was born in 1956, in Lucca and died on July 26, 2015

She was an Italian novelist, essayist, and translator.

She was the daughter of the jurist Giuseppe.

Pia began her writing career in 1992, with the short stories collection La bellezza dell’asino (i.e. “The Beauty of the Donkey”).

Pera got international notoriety with her 1995 novel Lo’s Diary (Italian: Diario di Lo), a retelling of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Lolita from the point of view of the female title character.

During her later years she specialized in novels connected to her passion, the gardening.

Se was also a translator of Russian novels and an essayist.

Pera was a professor of Russian literature at the University of Trento.

Pia’s last work was the semi-autobiographic novel Al giardino ancora non l’ho detto (i.e. “I still have not told it to the garden”).

She died due to motor neuron disease (MND).

Pia Pera passed away at 60 years old.
