Phil Sayer was born on May 18, 1953, and died on April 14, 2016.

He was a British professional voice artist.

Phil Sayer was the main element of the Sayer Hamilton voice studio, based in Bolton, formed in 2003 in partnership with his wife, Elinor Hamilton.

Phil received his education at Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School, Crosby.

Earlier, Phil was a newsreader on BBC North West Tonight for ten years and a presenter on several radio stations, including Piccadilly Radio, where he started in 1976, Red Rose Radio, BBC GMR (now BBC Radio Manchester), Radio City, Jazz FM and Smooth FM.

Before his death his voice was used at many British railway stations; most notably the entire South West Trains and almost the entire Southern networks, a number of stations on the Northern Rail network, for the provision of announcements regarding train arrivals, departures and cancellations or delays, as well as general information for the travelling public.

Phil would probably be best remembered for his voice being used on the London Underground saying to passengers “Please mind the gap” and “Stand clear of the doors please”.

His cause of death was due to oesophageal cancer on April 14, 2016.

He left his twin boys, Alex and Ben, born in 2006 behind.

Phil Sayer passed away at 62 yrs old.
