Peter Wenger, Swiss footballer, Died at 72


Peter Wenger was born on April 10, 1944, and died on July 23, 2016.

He was a Swiss international footballer.

He started his youth football with his local team in Küsnacht.

Peter played as Striker (left winger) for Luzern between 1965 and 1966.

Peter played for FC Basel in the Nationalliga A and won five league titles, between 1966 and 1974, the Swiss Cup once and the first edition of the Swiss League Cup in 1972.

In his time with Basel he played a total of 221 competitive games and scored 63 goals.

During the summer of 1974 he transferred to Nordstern where he played for six seasons.

He played seven games for the Swiss national team in the years 1969 and 1970.

Wenger made his international debut on September 24, 1969 in an international friendly at the Mithatpaşa Stadium as he was substituted in at half time.

He lost 0−3 against Turkey.

Peter played his last international game on December 20, 1970.

Switzerland won 2−1 against Malta in the Empire Stadium, Gżira during the UEFA Euro 1972 qualifying stage.

He died in Luzern, Switzerland.

Peter Wenger passed away at 72 years old.
