Peter Mathews was born in August 1951 and died on February 28, 2017.
He was an Irish economic commentator and politician.
After he was first elected as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South constituency at the 2011 general election, he lost that party’s parliamentary party whip in July 2013.
Mathews left the Fine Gael party in October 2013 and sat as an independent TD for the remainder of the 31st Dáil.
He participated as a frequent panelist on Tonight with Vincent Browne during the Irish financial crisis.
He attended Gonzaga College and went on to study Commerce at University College Dublin.
Peter Mathews was married to Susan and they have four children.
He joined the Progressive Democrats on its foundation but left shortly afterward.
Mathews was a qualified Chartered Accountant and has worked for Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) and ICC Bank.
Prior to entering politics, he was a consultant on banking and finance and a media commentator.
Even though he was diagnosis with oesophageal cancer, Mathews said he would still contest the 2016 general election.
But, he lost his seat.
He died as a result of his cancer.
Peter Mathews passed away at 65 years old.
