Pedro Miret Prieto was born in 1927, in Santiago de Cuba, and died on January 15, 2016.
He was a Cuban civilian, military and political engineer.
Prieto served from 1959-2009 various senior positions in the government of Cuba and the Communist Party of Cuba.
Pedro started his political activities from the coup of March 10 of 1952.
On July 26, 1953, Pedro Miret Prieto took part in the assault, along with Fidel Castro, the Cuartel Moncada.
Prieto was wounded in battle, captured and sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Pedro joined the leadership of the July 26th Movement, in 1955.
Pedro Miret Prieto arrives secretly in March 1958 to Cuba, to join the ranks of the Rebel Army in the Sierra Maestra.
Pedro Miret Prieto was promoted to Commander in December 1958.
On April 1961, he also took part in the battle of Playa Giron against the front of the heavy artillery.
In January 1959, Pedro Miret Prieto served as Assistant Secretary of Defense and during the 1960s the ministries of Agriculture and Mining, Metallurgy and Fuel.
From 1972 to 1974,  he served as deputy prime minister.
Pedro Miret Prieto was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba since the establishment in 1965 until his death.
Pedro start, on several occasions, a member of its Politburo.
Prieto was elected in 1976, as deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power and a member of the State Council.
He was Vice President of the Council of Ministers from 1990 until his retirement in 2009.
In 2003, Pedro Miret Prieto was awarded the Commemorative Medal 50th Anniversary of July 26th.
Pedro Miret Prieto passed away at 88 yrs old, he suffered the disease of Alzheimer.
