P. N. Bhagwati, Indian judge, Died at 95

Prafullachandra Natwarlal Bhagwati was born on December 21, 1921, in Gujarat and died on June 15, 2017.

He was the 17th Chief Justice of India, serving from 12 July 1985 until his retirement on 20 December 1986.

Bhagwati was responsible for introducing the concepts of Public Interest Litigation and Absolute liability in India, and for this reason is held along with Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer, to be a pioneer of judicial activism in the country.

Bhagwati died in a hospital at New Delhi after having admitted there a few days before.

P. N. Bhagwati passed away at 95 years old.
