Olaf Heymann Olsen was on born June 7, 1928, in Copenhagen and died on November 17, 2015.

He was a Danish historian and archaeologist.

Olaf is known to have primarily worked in medieval and Viking Age archaeology.

Olaf was hired while he was a student, to work as assistant at the National Museum in Copenhagen.

In 1966 he earned a degree at the University of Copenhagen.

Olaf was appointed professor of medieval archaeology at Aarhus University in 1971.

Then in 1981, he became director of the National Museum and the Directorate for Cultural Heritage.

Olsen has conducted numerous excavations of medieval churches, and was central at the ancient Skuldelev ships.

Olaf H. Olsen passed away at 87 yrs old.
