Nicholas Smith was born on March 5, 1934, and died on December 6, 2015.
He was an English actor who was best known for playing Mr. Rumbold, the manager of the fictional department store Grace Brothers, in the BBC sitcom Are You Being Served?.
Nicholas, the son of a chartered surveyor, attended a preparatory school and St. John’s School, Leatherhead.
He learned to play musical instruments, studied singing and trained as an actor at RADA.
Nicholas then appeared in repertory theatres, on the West End stage, at the Bristol Old Vic and on Broadway.
Smith died on December 6, 2015 following seven weeks of hospitalisation for a fall at his home.
He is the father of actress Catherine Russell.
