Mushirul Hasan

Historian of modern India Mushirul Hasan was born on August 15, 1949, and died on December 10, 2018.

Mushirul Hasan has written extensively on the Partition of India, communalism, and on the history of Islam in South-Asia.

Noted historian Mohibbul Hasan was his father, and the second eldest.

He received his M. A. from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1969.

In 1977, Mushirul Hasan when back to earned a Doctorate (Ph.D.) from the University of Cambridge.

Hasan served as a Professor in the Department of History and Culture, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Mushirul Hasan also served as the Director of Academy of Third World Studies in Jamia Millia Islamia from July 2000 to January 2010.

From 1992 to 1996, Hasan was the Pro – Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia.

After that Professor Mushirul Hasan served as the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (2004-2009).

In May 2010, he was appointed as the Director-General of the National Archives of India.

Hasan was the elected as the President of the Indian History Congress in 2002.

Mushirul Hasan likewise held in the past scholarly positions at the Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute of Advanced Study), Berlin, Center D’Etudes De L’Inde ET de L’ Asie Du Sud (The Center for Studies in India and South Asia), Paris, Center of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, UK, St Antony’s College, Oxford and the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi.

Mushirul Hasan passed away at 69 years old.
