Mohamed Tahar Fergani was born on May 9, 1928, in Constantine and died on December 7, 2016.

He was an Algerian singer, violinist, and composer.

He was nicknamed the Nightingale of Constantine.

He was known as Master of the Malouf music of Constantine.

He was one of the few singers to interpret compositions on four octaves.

Also to the Malouf, Mohamed interprets the Mahjouz (popular Constantinois type that derives from the Malouf), Zjoul (musical genre as old as the Malouf, constantinois) and Hawzi (popular type that derives from the Tlemcen Gharnati).

Mohamed’s father Hamou Fergani was also a singer of Hawzi.

He started in the oriental music, he later changed of style approaching the Malouf.

Mohamed Tahar Fergani passed away at 88 years old.
