Mirella Bentivoglio, Italian artist, Died at 94

Mirella Bentivoglio was born on March 28, 1922, in Klagenfurt, Austria and died on March 23, 2017

She was an Italian sculptor, poet, performance artist and curator.

Mirella had joined the international concrete poetry movement during the 1960s

Bentivoglio took part in exhibitions all over the world, including the Venice Biennale (eight times from 1969 to 2001) and the Museum of Modern Art (1992).

Mirella’s father, Ernesto Bertarelli, was a scientist and professor at the University of Pavia and an avid collector of books.

She raised in Milan and studied in Italy, Switzerland and Englan

Bentivoglio started her career as a poet when she was very young.

Bentivoglio published her first collection of poems, Giardino, in 1943, but she waited until 1968 to publish her second poetry book.

However, the unusually long period between the two publications was intentional, the result of a dissatisfaction with the rigidity of the printed word and its inability to fully represent the open and multifaceted experiences from which the poems emerged.

Bentivoglio published her first work as an art critic, in 1963 a monographic study on the Lithuanian-born American artist Ben Shahn.

He made her home and worked in Rome.

Mirella Bentivoglio passed away at 94 years old.
