Min Bahadur Sherchan was born on June 20, 1931, and died on May 6, 2017.

He was a Nepalese mountaineer and former British Gurkha soldier.

During 2008, the 76 year old became the oldest climber to summit Mount Everest.

Sherchan lost the record five years later to 80 year old Japanese mountaineer Yuichiro Miura.

He died at Everest Base Camp while trying to reclaim his title.

Min Bahadur Sherchan passed away at 85 years old.
