Mikhail Yuriyevich Lesin was born on July 11, 1958, and died on November 5, 2015 of a heart attack.
He was a Russian political figure, and an adviser to president Putin.
Mikhail was credited as the creator of the RT (Russia Today) television news network “to establish a news channel that would counter CNN and BBC with a Moscow spin”. Lesin also served as minister of antiquities for the Russian Museum of Ethnography from 1993–1995.
In 2013, Mikhail became head of Gazprom-Media, a state-controlled media giant that describes itself as one of the largest media groups in Russia and Europe.
Mikhail resigned in December 2014 citing family reasons.
Mikhail led the Kremlin’s efforts to censor Russia’s independent television outlets, according to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).
In 2014, Wicker called on the Justice Department to launch an investigation into Lesin over allegations of corruption and money laundering.
During his tenor as a public servant of Russia, Lesin personally amassed 10s of millions of dollars that raised questions with observers.
Mikhail was known to have homes in LA worth $28 million.
Mikhail was found dead on November 5, 2015, in the Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel. RT (Russia Today) reported the next day that it was due to a heart attack.
He was born from a Jewish mother. Lesin was married and had a daughter, Catherine, from his first marriage in 1979; and a son, Anton, from his second marriage in 1983.
Catherine led the US Bureau of the Russian state TV channel Russia Today.
Anton attended a Swiss university and interned at a film academy in Los Angeles.
Anton was a producer for the films Sabotage, Fading Gigolo and Fury.
Mikhail Lesin had five grandchildren at the time of his death.
Mikhail passed away at age 57 in November 2015.
