Jean-Michel Delpech was born on January 26, 1946, and died on January 2, 2016.

He was popularly known as Michel Delpech.

He was a French singer-songwriter and actor.

Michel had his debut release hit “Anatole” on Disques Vogue, in 1963.

He met Roland Vincent, and a long singing, songwriting partnership ensued with Delpech being signed to Festival French record label, in 1964,

Mr. Delpech took part in the music comedy Copains Clopant that had a 6-month run and made him very popular in 1965, particularly through his interpretation of “Chez Laurette”.

Michel Delpech was the opening act for Jacques Brel’s goodbye concert at the Paris Olympia.

In 1967, Delpech collaborated with Johnny Stark.

In 1968, Michel won the “Grand Prix du Disque” award for “Il y a des jours où on ferait mieux de rester au lit”.

Michel then left Vogue to sign with Barclay Records.

When he had reached the peak of his career, he recorded “Wight Is Wight” in tribute of Isle of Wight Festival, a famous rock festival on the Isle of Wight that became his best-known song.

The song has sold over one million copies in Europe and was awarded the gold disc status.

The song called ‘Pour Un Flirt’ was a second smash hit.

The song had charted in the french speaking countries around the globe as well in the Netherlands, and a version in German brought him charts success in Western Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Even the English translation even made the Top 20 in the UK.

During the early 1970s, there was a separation from Johnny Stark for two years, and the end of the long collaboration with Roland Vincent, his first-ever writer.

Michel Delpech new songs were not successful.

He a  major comeback in the 80’s and released the album Loin d’ici.

After another compilation album followed in 1989.

Michel Delpech continued releasing albums and making concerts.

In late 2006, Michel Delpech released an album of duets Michel Delpech and that topped the French Albums Chart for one week (week of 21–27 January 2007).

His work continued over the years.

He married Chantal Simon in 1966.

They soon later divorced.

Michel had depression issues.

Michel Delpech passed away at 69 yrs old due to throat cancer.
