Mauril A. Bélanger was born on June 15, 1955, and died on August 16, 2016.
He was a Member of the Canadian House of Commons.
He represented Ottawa—Vanier from by-election victory in 1995 until his death in 2016.
Mauril was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, Bélanger served in cabinet during the premiership of Paul Martin as Minister responsible for Official Languages, Associate Minister of National Defence, Minister in charge of the Democratic Reform, and Minister for Internal Trade.
He was considered a frontrunner for the position of Speaker of the House of Commons after his 8th electoral victory during the 2015 federal election, but withdrew after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease, which caused his death.
Mauril Bélanger passed away at 61 years old.
