Maureen Haughey (née Lemass)was born on September 3, 1925, in Dublin and died on March 17, 2017.
He was the wife of Charles J. Haughey.
She served as Taoiseach of Ireland on three separate occasions between 1979 and 1992.
In her studies at UCD, she was introduced to Charles Haughey.
The pair married on September 18, 1951.
They had four children: Eimear, Conor, Ciarán and Seán.
Charles Haughey, her husband, was elected as a TD for Dublin North-East in 1957 before later serving in a range of ministerial positions including Justice, Agriculture, Finance and Health and Social Welfare.
Charles was elected leader of Fianna Fáil and Taoiseach in 1979. During her time as wife to the Taoiseach she kept a low profile and had enjoyed a background role in her husbands’ political career.
She was widowed on 13 June 2006 when her husband died of prostate cancer.
The couple spent 55 years together.
During 2008 she left Abbeville, her home of 39 years.
Maureen Haughey passed away at 91 years old.
