Matthew Shija was born on April 17, 1924, in Puge, Tanzania and died on December 9, 2015.

Shija was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Kahamaon on November 11, 1983.

Then he was ordained bishop on February 26, 1984.

Shija served as a Bishop until his retirement on April 24, 2001.
