María Lorenza Barreneche Iriarte was born on July 3, 1926, in Buenos Aires, Argentina and died on January 5, 2016.

She was a First Lady of Argentina.

María was the wife of President Raul Alfonsin and therefore, the first lady of Argentina between 1983 and 1989.

María Lorenza Barreneche met her husband in the mid- 1940s when she was 19 and was in a carnival.

Her husband was a  law student.

They got married in Chascomús on February 4 of 1949 and then settled in the province of Mendoza, having six children.

They were Raul Felipe in 1949, Ana Maria in 1950, Ricardo Luis in 1951, Maria Marcela in 1953, Maria Ines in 1954, and Javier Ignacio in 1956.

As well as Ricardo Luis in 1951, who was a politician and was a member of the Province of Buenos Aires and candidate for governor of the same in the 2007 elections.

María Lorenza Barreneche passed away at 89 yrs old.
