Maria Isabel Barreno de Faria Martins was born on July 10, 1939, in Lisbon and died on September 3, 2016.

She was a Portuguese writer.

Barreno studied College of Letters at the Universidade de Lisboa, where she graduated in Historico-Philosophical Sciences.

Barreno dedicated herself to the cause of feminism, taking part in the Portuguese feminist movement together with the writers Maria Teresa Horta and Maria Velho da Costa, the “Three Marias” (TrĂªs Marias).

Maria was made a Grand Official in the Ordem do Infante D. Henrique, on March 8, 2004.

Maria Isabel Barreno passed away at 77 years old.
