Margaret Mitchell, Canadian politician and social activist, Died at 92

Margaret Anne Mitchell (née Learoyd) was born on July 17, 1925, and died on March 8, 2017.

She was a social activist and the New Democratic Party (NDP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Vancouver East from 1979 until 1993.

Professionally trained as a social worker.

Margaret was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1979 federal election.

Mitchell voted against a pay raise for MPs, in 1980, and subsequently donated her additional pay to charity establishing the Margaret Mitchell Fund for Women.

Margaret Mitchell passed away at 92 years old.
