Luis Jaime Salom Horrach was born on August 7, 1991, and died on June 3, 2016.

He was a Grand Prix motorcycle racer from Spain.

He began competitively racing from the age of eight years, winning the 50 cc Balearic Supermotard championship.

Luis went up into 125cc championships from 2005 onwards, and again becoming Balearic champion for two years in succession, before he moved into the CEV Buckler championship in 2007.

During his first full season in the national championship, Luis Salom finished seventh in the series, with a single podium coming in Catalunya.

He competed in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2007, taking fourth place in the championship thanks to a win at Assen and second at Jerez.

Luise continued in the series in 2008, where he won four of the first five races of the season, to hold a 13-point lead over J. D. Beach.

He went on to overhaul Salom by four points by season’s end, after Salom retired from races at the Sachsenring and Brno.

Salom also finished second to Efrén Vázquez in the CEV Buckler championship.

On June 3, 2016, with 25 minutes to go during Free Practice 2 for the 2016 Catalan Moto2 Grand Prix, Luis Salom crashed in turn 12, resulting in the session being red-flagged.

On that day the accident was not recorded by MotoGP cameras, however, a security camera near turn 13 managed to record footage of his accident.

Luis’s bike hit the air fences and bounced upwards, while Salom (who has let go of his bike) ends up sliding directly underneath the bike, causing the bike to fall down right on his body.

Luis Salom passed away at 24 yrs old.
