Preis once managed SpVgg Greuther Fürth on an interim basis after Mike Büskens was sacked.

Since March 11, 2013 till end of season he was assistant of manager Frank Kramer.

Then in 2013/14 Preis managed SpVgg U23 team but left after the end of season, and was not signed with a club thereafter.

Ludwig died after suffering from a long disease.

Ludwig Preis was survived by his wife and two younger daughters.
