Lucy Kibaki, Kenyan teacher and socialite, Died at 57

Lucy Muthoni Kibaki\Lucy Muthoni was born in 1940 and died on April 26, 2016.

She was the wife of former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and was First Lady of Kenya from 2002 to 2013.

She was also a Kenyan teacher and socialite

Her father was the Rev. John Kagai, a pastor of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa and Rose Nyachomba, in Mukurwe-ini, Mount Kenya.

Lucy received her education at Alliance Girls High School, then trained as a teacher, working first at Kamwenja Teachers College and later at Kambui College in Kiambu, where she rose to the post of principal.

Lucy met Mwai Kibaki in 1960.

Then following a two-year romance, they got married in 1962, with Lucy quitting her teaching career in 1963.

The couple had four children: Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagai, and Tony Githinji. Kibaki was a patron of the Kenya Girl Guides Association.

Kibaki died at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London, after brief hospitalization at the Nairobi Hospital for chest pains.

Lucy Kibaki passed away at 75 yrs old.
