Lúcio Lara was born on April 9, 1929, in Huambo and died on February 27, 2016.
He served as the General Secretary of the MPLA during the time of the Angolan War of Independence and Angolan Civil War.
He was one of the founding members of the MPLA, led the first MPLA members into Luanda on November 8, 1974.
Lúcio Lara was a math and physics teacher before he was elected Secretary for Organization and Cadres at the MPLA’s first national conference in December 1962.
Lúcio Lara passed away at 86 yrs old.
