He was the son of the Catalan Juan Servitje Torrallardona (who arrived in Mexico in 1904 and worked in a pastry owned by the family) and Josefina Sendra (who arrived in Mexico in 1914 ).

Servitje studied at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) where he graduated as a public accountant.
