Liam Tuohy, Irish football player and manager, Died at 83

Liam Tuohy was born on April 27, 1933, and died on August 13, 2016.

He was an Irish footballer and manager.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Tuohy played as an outside left for Shamrock Rovers, Newcastle United, and the Republic of Ireland.

During 1959, while playing for Ireland, Tuohy scored the first-ever goal in the history of the European Championship.

When he retired as a player, Liam became a coach and managed several clubs in the League of Ireland including Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk, and Shelbourne.

Tuohy also managed the Republic of Ireland.

During July 1973, Tuohy also took charge of the Shamrock Rovers XI that played Brazil in a prestige friendly and during the 1980s he successfully coached the Republic of Ireland U-19s.

Subsequently, he served as a director of football at Home Farm before retiring in 2002.

During October 2007, Tuohy, along with other members of the Shamrock Rovers team that won the FAI Cup six times in a row during the 1960s, was honoured by the FAI.

Liam Tuohy passed away at 83 years old.
