Li Kwan-ha, Hong Kong police officer, Died at 79

Li Kwan-ha was born on July 3, 1937, and died on January 23, 2017.

He was the first ethnic Chinese to serve as the Commissioner of Police in Hong Kong from 1989 to 1994.

Li Kwan-ha attended King’s College and Queen Elizabeth School.

Kwan-ha joined the Hong Kong Police Force in 1957.

During April 1969, Li Kwan-ha became an Inspector.

Li Kwan-ha became Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1978.

Kwan-ha was the first Chinese Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1984 and Deputy Commissioner of Police in 1985.

Kwan-ha earned the rank of Commissioner of Police following the retirement of Raymon Anning in December 1989 and served in the office until his retirement in 1994.

His wife, whom he met at Queen Elizabeth School, died in November 2007.

One of his children used to live in Vancouver, Canada but moved back to Hong Kong to keep Li company.

He died after collapsing at his home in Pok Fu Lam.

Li was certified dead after being rushed to Queen Mary Hospital.

Li Kwan-ha passed away at 79 years old.
