Lev Petrovich Gor’kov was born on June 14, 1929, in Moscow and died on December 28, 2016.

He was a Russian-American research physicist internationally known for his pioneering work in the field of superconductivity.

Gor’kov was a professor of physics at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, and a program director in Condensed Matter at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.

Gor’kov was one of the Magnet Lab’s founding scientists.

He received his academic training when he was at Moscow State University, after which he entered Kapitza Institute For Physical Problems, and eventually joined the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics.

He traveled to America at the age of 63.

Lev Gor’kov passed away at 87 years old.
